The Hindustan College of Arts & Science together with Indo Cine Foundation launched Dr. KCG Verghese International film festival in INOX theatres Chennai Citi Centre in Radha Krishnan Salai Chennai – 4. Dr. Elizabeth Verghese Chairperson Hindustan Group of Institutions (HGI) presided and Mr. P. Bharathiraja the legendary Director was Chief Guest. Many film personalities, students and media persons participated in large number
It started with prayer song and Dr. S. Thirumagan the Principal HCAS welcomed the gathering. Speaking on the occasion Dr. S. Thirumagan said HCAS is completing 25 years silver jubilee and this is first of the event marking a yearlong celebrations and said he is happy to welcome the Chairperson Dr. Elizabeth Verghese. Director Dr. Susan Marthandan and the Chief Guest Director Bharathiraja. He recollected many films of Bharathiraja and how relevant it was to him. He also welcomed Taiwan Consul General Mr. Charles Li and Australian Vice Consul Andrew Collister and actress Amala Paul who also graced the occasion.

While Mr. Charles li spoke of India’s relationship to Taiwan and activities here he spoke of 7 students studying at HCAS from Asian University. Mr. Collister traced the need for film in promoting culture and spoke of Australian films and its role in promotion of Australian culture
Mr. E. Thangaraj of ICAF Chennai thanked HCAS in associating with his organization and spoke of preparations he took for organizing this fest
Dr. Susan Marthandan, Director HCAS spoke of relevance of silver jubilee for her college and spoke of two rajas who dominated Tamil entertainment industry being Mr. Bharathiraja and Ilayaraja and thanked Amala Paul for participating in this programme and outlined college’s program for silver jubilee celebrations.
Ms. Amala Paul actress of Aadai Tamil film spoke of relevance of films in bringing understanding between people and cultures in terror prone violent world and spoke how she hates that terror culture spoke even from her movie.
Dr. Elizabeth Verghese Chair Person HGI spoke nostalgically of Bharathiraja and her links to Tamil films. She spoke of his movies and charm he has created and how for a long period she is acquainted with his films. She also spoke of Ilayaraja the maestro and Bharathiraja whose films relevance in entertaining and spoke of her husband Dr.KCG Verghese who wanted to make every man a success no man a failure, his vision and mission set for HGI and thanked all for being here.
In his address as Chief Guest Mr. Bharathiraja thanked for all affection and attention Hindustan had called all film directors except him and Ms. Paul. We have come now he said and did not want to go in to politics and spoke how he regarded film and culture of Tamil Nadu and wants to be him and Director only even in his next birth and wished the film festival success and cited relevance of films in promoting culture as he ended.

HCAS’s Dr. KCG Verghese International film festival concluded in the INOX cinema’s in Chennai citi Centre in Radha Krishnan Salai Chennai – 4. Mrs. Suhasini Mani Rathinam actress and film maker participated along with the Director of college Dr. Susan Marthandan. The principal Dr. S. Thirumagan of HCAS welcomed the gathering B Saranya HOD –Visual Communication HCAS read the report of the proceedings of yesterday and today’s function till valedictory. Staff and students of HCAS and other colleges participated in large number along with media persons and various dignitaries.
Dr. Susan Marthandan in her speech outlined activities for 25th year of completion of HCAS and silver jubilee and spoke on the festival. She said her acquaintance with Mr. Charu Hassan actor and father of Ms. Suhasini Mani Rathinam and said she is looking forward to listening her.
Mrs. Suhasini Mani Rathinam spoke as Chief Guest need for openness in ideas and many things are happening and one should not be conditioned by past. She owed her success to Film institute course and to Director K. Bala Chander and spoke affectionately of her husband well known director Mani Rathinam. She is not concerned with national awards generally and wanted to be good in whatever she does as film maker and answered questions of students and others gathered
Mr. K Ebiraj HOD – Electronic media proposed a vote of thanks thanking everyone for making this program a success. Earlier E. Thangaraj of ICAF spoke on steps he had taken in regard to festival.
